The Cabinet has given its nod to the Kandyan Marriage and Divorce Act to draft a Bill to amend the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act.
Cabinet Spokespersons today (19) said that it has been approved an amendment to Section 22 of the Marriage Registration Ordinance.
They said that the consent of the parents is required for the marriage of a minor since Parents’ permission or consent to marriages for a party under 18 years is invalid before the law.
The government approved the proposal tabled by the Justice Minister to repeal the relevant inconsistencies in the Kandyan Marriage and Divorce Act and to advice the legal draftsman to prepare a Bill.
