Attorney General Sanjay Rajarathnam has advised Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe to launch an investigation into the conduct of Danushka Gunathilaka who is currently in Australia on bail over the charges of sexually abusing women during the period ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, 2022, the Sunday Times reported.
According to the news report, the AG has advised the Sports Minister to impose a lifetime ban on Gunathilaka preventing him from being engaged in cricket or any other sport.
These instructions were given after the Sports Minister handed over the report of the committee appointed to probe into incidents that occurred during the T20 World Cup and the alleged influence of the Born Again religious cult on the Sri Lanka men’s cricket team.
The AG has said a separate investigation can be initiated into Gunathilaka’s conduct according to Sri Lankan law, despite the outcome of an ongoing investigation in Australia.
