The Election Commission in a statement said Government information Director General Dinith Chinthaka Karunaratne lacks basic knowledge about holding elections.
The EC said so in response to Karunaratne’s yesterday (29) statement the Gazette notification with signatures of EC members to start the Local Government Election process has not been sent to the Government Printer so far.
The commission today said for the notice to start the election process signs of its members are not needed and it is the Returning Officers who do the paperwork.
The documents were submitted to the Government Printer by the Returning Officers today (30) to publish in Government Gazette. It seems the DG information does not have basic knowledge about holding elections and that must be why he issued such a statement, the EC said.
