SJB MP Rohini Kaviratne demanded Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage to reveal the faces of those who are behind importing Nano-Liquid fertilizer for a higher price than the originally deemed price.
Speaking in Parliament today (19) Kaviratne said that Aluthgamage had told the media that there had been a scam in importing Nano-liquid fertiliser from India yesterday (18).
“Aluthgamage said that he is not involved with the scam. Then he should reveal the faces of actual culprits who imported stocks of fertiliser for excess price than the usual. If not Aluthgamage, who are the culprit, State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa? It is okay if Alugamage respects his master. We understand that. But he should not be a scapegoat for what has done by the master’s nephew because people are cursing the Agriculture Minister for the crisis. The Minister has become a pitiful person. He is forced to take blame for the things he has no involvement with,” she stressed.
It was revealed that Sri Lanka had paid Rs. 1,867 higher than the retail price in the Indian market for 500ml of Nano-liquid fertiliser. As a result Sri Lanka will incur a total cost of about Rs. 7.8 billion additionally.
