J. Sri Ranga arrested

Former MP J. Sri Ranga was arrested today on the accusations of influencing witnesses over an accident happened in Vavuniya in 2011.

He was in the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital allegedly receiving treatments at the time of the arrest.

Sri Ranga was issued an arrest warrant before by the Vavuniya High Court for the said accusation.

In the particular accident in which Sri Ranga was involved happened in Vavuniya on 30 July 2011 and a Police Sergeant died in the accident happened near the Settikulam hospital in Vavuniya.

The victim was a body guard of him who was then an MP.

Although Sri Ranga told the Police that it was the police sergeant who drove the vehicle. However, it was later revealed that the vehicle was driven by the MP.

It was revealed that the former MP made phone calls to two people who had given evidence in relation to a case and tried to influence them.
