The Mahanayaka Theras of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters have also requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to lock down the country to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In a letter to the President, the Mahanayaka Theras noted that the country is in a crisis due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 and mutations of the virus are also spreading island wide.
They said that even the World Health Organization (WHO) warned about severe consequences which the country could face in coming months due to the pandemic.
Therefore, the Mahanayaka Theras have requested the President to consider the recommendations of health experts and lock down the country for a week to control the spread of the virus and protect the lives of people.
