Mattakkuliya Murder: 5 Army personnel ordered to be questioned under detention orders

Colombo Additional Magistrate yesterday (14) granted permission to the Police to question five military personnel under 7 day detention order over a murder of an individual in Mattakkuliya.

The victim identified as Akila Samath Rathnasiri (36). He was the husband of Grama Niladhari official in Samitupura.

On 17 August, the Grama Niladhari had lodged a complaint with the police that her husband was missing. His body was discovered from Kaka Dupatha in Mattakkuliya. Hands and legs of the body had been tied.

Later, following investigations, the Police arrested a Navy Corporal who was in duty at Mattakkuliya Army Camp.

Another 4 military personnel including the said Corporal was produced before the Court yesterday (14).

The Police informed the Court that, the suspects had kidnapped the victim, murdered him and dump his body in to Kelani River.
