Several children infectes with post-covid ‘multisystem inflammatory syndrome’: Specialist

Consultant in charge of the Intensive Care Unit of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital Pediatrician Dr. Nalin Kithulwatta said that about 34 children have been infected with the post-covid syndrome called “Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children’ so far in Sri Lanka and five such children were receiving treatment at the ICU of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital at present, Daily Mirror reports.

Accordingly, 21 out of the 34 children who were infected with the syndrome have been reported from the LRH.

Another 6 children have been reported from the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and 4 children from the Kandy National Hospital.

Dr. Kitulwatta has said that patients have been reported from Jaffna, Diyathalawa, Kurunegala and Badulla areas as well.

He said that children could be infected with the disease two to six weeks after recovering from COVID-19.

According to the doctor, about 2 per cent of the patients could be succumbed to the disease. Therefore, it is crucial to admit them to a hospital without a delay.

The symptoms of this disease are fever, abdominal pain, feeling over tiredness, vomiting, diarrhoea, bloodshot eyes and skin rash.
