SJB MP Thushara Indunil Amarasena brought two packets of fertilizer samples into the Parliament Chamber today (5) to request the government to check the quality of fertilizer distributed by government instructions these days.
Showing the two packets, Amarasena said that that particular fertilizer stock was distributed by a Govijana Sewa Centre and shattered pieces of glass were found inside the stock.
“The government said that their intention is to provide fertilizer which is not harmful for the farmers. But now, piece of glasses, syringes are found inside the stocks they are distributing. I request the Agriculture Minister to test these samples I brought to the Chamber today,” he said.
Amarasena’s move was strongly opposed by the government MPs who questioned how he was allowed to bring such things inside the Chamber.
MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam who was chaired the Sitting at the moment said that he would consult with the Speaker regarding the matter.
