A businessman, who is believed to have abducted a 29-year-old mother of three children and held her captive, was apprehended by the Matara Division Women and Children’s Bureau. The arrest took place during a raid on a residence in Kamburupitiya.
After enduring threats and intimidation for approximately six months while residing in that house, the woman was taken to Matara General Hospital, where she provided her statement. According to her account, the suspect had threatened her with harm to her husband and children if she attempted to escape. He had also filmed her in compromising situations and used those videos to blackmail her, threatening to release them on the Internet. In addition, she revealed that the suspect had forcibly cut her hair and made death threats against her.
The victim expressed her futile attempts to seek help from multiple police stations for her daughter’s release. Finally, she contacted DIG Southern Province, Sajeewa Medawatta, who assigned the case to OIC Matara Division Women and Children’s Bureau, Waruni Keshala Bogahawatta, for further investigation.
During the raid, the police executed a search warrant and discovered five large knives commonly used in the suspect’s fish stalls, as well as Kriss knives. Additionally, they seized a cell phone containing explicit videos of the woman and a memory card.
The police noted that the cell phone contained pornographic material featuring the suspect engaged in the rape of an underage girl. Furthermore, the suspect is facing multiple charges, including murder, rape of women, and assaulting a police officer with a sharp weapon.
Investigations revealed that the suspect is the victim’s uncle and that he had kidnapped her from her residence in the Embilipitiya area in December, threatening her with death.
