Sri Lanka’s renowned netball star, Tharjini Sivalingam, has officially retired from international netball competition after contributing to the sport’s success in her country for many years. At 45 years old, she is proud to have been the longest-serving female netball player in Asia. Sivalingam made her decision to retire after the 2023 World Championship Netball, as she reflected on her accomplishments with the “Daily Mirror” from Cape Town, South Africa.
Although she bids farewell to international netball, Sivalingam plans to continue her netball journey by participating in club netball in Australia. She holds her time representing Sri Lanka close to her heart, and her dedication to her country has made her a world-renowned netball player.
Throughout her career, Sivalingam took part in numerous international tournaments, including five Asian Netball Championships and four Netball World Cups. Notably, she led the Sri Lanka team at the Asian Netball Championship. She highlighted her training experience with the Sri Lankan team in Botswana before the World Cup, where she gave her best performances in the two matches she played.
Her achievements have been remarkable, with honors like the World Best Shooter Award in the 2011 Netball World Cup and the Asian Best Shooting Award in 2009 and 2012. Despite retiring from international play, Tharjini Sivalingam’s impact on the netball world will be remembered and cherished.
