The second phase of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala was declared open for the general public today (15).
The event was held under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa
The section from Mirigama to Kurunegala covers 40.91 km of the Central Expressway.
Built avoiding townships and urban areas minimizing the impact on environment, this four-lane stretch has been identified as the most beautiful section of the country’s expressways.
The section had been constructed as the second phase of the Central Expressway using local funds by local contractors at a cost of Rs. 137 billion. The 40.91 km stretch has five interchanges with toll counters at Mirigama, Nakalagamuwa, Dambokka, Kurunegala and Yaggapaitiya.
