President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles, to promptly initiate the formation of a specialized police unit to investigate and respond to individuals or organizations that undermine religious harmony.
This decision was made following reports from intelligence services, which alerted the President to the activities of certain groups attempting to destabilize the country by promoting religious disharmony and causing embarrassment to the government.
Having received the pertinent intelligence, President Wickremesinghe has instructed Minister Alles to take immediate action to address this issue.
The forthcoming police unit will be tasked with monitoring acts of sabotage and proactively preventing any actions that disrupt religious harmony within the nation.
