Colombo Chief Magistrate today (14) rejected the bail application filed by former Governor Azath Salley.
He was arrested by the CID and was detained under the PTA. The arrest was made over several controversial remarks Salley had made at a press conference with regard to the law of the country.
Maithri Gunaratna PC, who represented Salley told the Court that although the CID arrested Salley on suspicion of alleged involvement with extremists, according to the CID no evidence has been found to prove Salley had lconnections with the suspects of the Mawanella Buddha statue vandalism case.
The CID then informed the Court that another case filed against Salley under the PTA and ICCPR and it is being heard before Colombo High Court.
The Judge Buddhika Sri Ragala, considering the submissions of both parties rejected the bail application of the accused.
