Former LTTE spokesman Daya Master alias Velayudam Dayanidhi has been sentenced to two years in prison suspended for a period of five years by the Vavuniya High Court Judge Manikkavasagar Ilanchelian on charges of aiding and abetting the uprising of the LTTE, on Monday. Attorney M. A. Sumanthiran appearing for Daya Master in High Court that he accepts the fact that he is guilty and that he served the LTTE for a monthly salary.
The case was filed against Daya Master on October 19, 2018 by the Attorney General on the grounds that he had committed an offense punishable under the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 7 of 2006 and the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 7 of 2006, according to information provided by the Counter-Terrorism Unit.
Taking these facts into consideration, the judge acquitted Daya Master of the charges and sentenced him to two years imprisonment with five years suspended imprisonment. Daya Master, who served as the LTTE’s media spokesman, was one of several individuals who surrendered to the Army during the final days of the war.
