In a strong worded statement, Chairman of One Country – One Law Presidential Task Force Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said that the President should give IGP post to Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
He made this statement in response to the Cardinal’s recent statement on Police investigations into the hand grenade found at All Saints’ Church in Punchi Borella last week.
Cardinal Ranjith who said that they are not satisfied with the investigations into the incident, alleged that it seemed the Police was trying to deceive the public about the incident.
“When we told the Police to check CCTV footages from the morning on that day. But they only check the footages from 3.00 p.m. The CCTV footages in the morning clearly show that a person enters into the Church in the morning. Are the Police taken us for fools? If they cannot do their jobs, the IGP and the Police Spokesperson should give us their uniforms and go home,” Cardinal Ranjith asserted.
Gnanasara Thera in response said that the Cardinal is behaving as if he is the IGP.
“This is a complex matter. There is a procedure tp conduct Police investigations. Both the IGP and the Public Security Minister made clarification on the matter. If the Cardinal is not satisfied, the President should give the IGP post to the Cardinal. Some of his behaviors indicate that he is the unofficial IGP in the country,” Gnanasara Thera stressed.
